Why we do it
We see the gap between many women’s experiences of prostitution and the narratives that circulate in society. The view that prostitution is simply ‘sex work’ and therefore a ‘lifestyle choice’ is not how many women feel about their situation. In many cases it’s the result of significant traumas and difficulties that have left women feeling they have no other recourse to get by.
We’re also deeply troubled by the shaming that often goes on in society where those exploited by prostitution are stigmatised and made targets of abuse. We see the gap between this attitude and the great value that God places upon them.
Yasha’s logo takes its inspiration from Psalm 68:13 which sets the tone and culture of our aims and vision.
“Even though you lie among the ash heaps,
the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver,
her feathers with shining gold” Psalm 68:13
It speaks of an identity that lies beyond circumstance, a beauty that radiates from finding oneself loved and redeemed, and a freedom that flows from the power of this healing relationship.

Our aims
- To reduce the isolation, marginalisation and stigma experienced by women involved in prostitution by seeking to bring them into a network of safe relationships
- To build self-esteem and develop women’s imaginative capacity for change by holding a mirror to their true worth and potential
- To offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to find sustainable routes out of prostitution and addiction, addressing both internal and external barriers to change
Just like any other form of sexual abuse, the true essence of the prostitution experience must be understood before it can be overcome. Prostitution is a particularly cruel form of sexual abuse because the message ‘there is no sexual abuse going on here’ is still respected.
